Dermal Filler

What is dermal filler?

Dermal filler is composed hyaluronic acid, a chemical naturally produced in our bodies, which diminishes over time with aging. Hyaluronic acid has an extremely volumizing/hydrating effect on the skin. Hyaluronic acid pulls water into the skin to add volume where filler is injected.  As filler is injected, this also stimulates our bodies to start natural collagen production, further adding to volume over time.

What is dermal filler used for?

As we age, our faces lose subcutaneous fat, the skin thins and loses its elasticity, and our bone density decreases.  All of these factors lead to the formation of facial folds. Dermal fillers restore youth to the aging face by adding volume to areas, creating a smoother appearance.

Where is filler injected?

Filler can be injected into the cheeks, jawline, nasal labial folds, marionette lines, lips, chin and temples. The type and dose of filler used is decided based on location and the severity of your volume loss.

When will I see results?

Filler takes effect immediately, though you may continue to see slight increase in volume over time as collagen production is stimulated by the filler.

how long does filler last?

Filler lasts between 6-12 months. It is recommended that you return for additional treatment as the filler begins to wear off to preserve its effect.

What are common side effects of filler?

For up to two weeks, side effects of dermal filler include swelling, asymmetry, bruising, small needle marks, and bleeding.  Ice may be applied to the injection site.

What post-injection instructions should I be aware of?

Filler is strategically placed by your injector, do not manipulate the treatment site unless instructed to do so. Gentle face cleansing and makeup application are permitted.  Avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours.  Avoid laser treatments and facials for two weeks.
